Clapham South Underground Station

The station was opened in 1926 and designed as one of eight London Underground stations with a deep-level air-raid shelter underneath it. The deep tube shelters were serving as safe accommodation for essential services such as telephone services, government offices and military personnel. In 1948, the deep shelter was used as temporary accommodation for immigrants.
